DUBAI: High-flying Karachi Kings have registered their second consecutive victory in the HBL PSL 2018 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, UAE on Sunday night.
Kind defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 5 wickets in the seventh match of the league.
This is Zalmi’s second defeat in three games so far.
When Karachi came to bat, they were chasing a small total; the run rate was not a problem.
Despite the early loss of Khurram Manzoor, Joe Denly(29) and Babar Azam (24) and Colin Ingram (23) pawed way for Karachi Kings’ win.
Ravi Bopara (17) also remained unbeaten.
Zalmi lost a couple of chances to come back into the game. First Umaid Asif dropped Rizwan’s catch on the boundary, that went for six, and then two easy runout chances were missed. Had these half chances were converted, it could have been a different story.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi skipper Daren Sammy won the toss and opted to bat first.
The decision did not work for Zalmi as they kept losing wickets at regular interval.
Kings bowlers made life difficult for Peshawar.
First Mohammad Amir removed both openers, then Shahid Afridi removed dangerous Mohammad Hafeez.
Dwayne Smith got young Ibtisam and Daren Sammy run out before Haris Sohail gave away an easy catch to Tymel Mills. Zalmi were reeling on 69/6.
Umaid Asif hit Afridi for a huge six on the first ball he faced, only to be got trapped before the wicket couple of balls later. He made 7, Zalmi were 77/7 in 14.5 overs.
Chris Jordan was the next man to fall for Peshawar Zalmi, leaving his team 79/8 in 16th over.
Smith was the only man to last more than 20 balls from Zalmi lineup. He held the batting line to take the team pass 100 after 17.2 overs.
Smith held nerves to complete his 43-ball fifty and took the total to 131/9 after 20 overs. He scored unbeaten 71 off 51 balls with 5 massive sixes.
