DUBAI: Islamabad United won their first game in the HBL PSL 2018, defeating high-flying Multan Sultans by 5 wickets in an epic thriller on Sunday.
It was young Hussain Talat who kept his composure to take the team across the victory line after early hiccups.
He scored unbeaten 48 to chase down the 114-run target in 18th over.
Earlier, Islamabad United skipper Ruman Raees asked Sultans to bat first after winning the toss.
The United bowlers bowled the right channel early on and removed Multan’s top order cheaply.
Shoaib Malik (35) and Karen Pollard (28) showed some resistance to drag the score to 113. All Multan team bundled out in the process.
United lost Ronchi on the second ball of the inning for none, but Chadwick Walton (28) played some positive shots to cut off the pressure.
He along with Sahibzada Farhan (9) took the total to 37 when Farhan got out.
Imran Tahir struck twice in an over to remove Asif Ali (11) and Andre Russel (0), to bring another flavour to the game.
But, Hussain Talat (48*) and Fahim Ashraf (17) took the game away with a sensible knock.
Talat was picked Man of the Match.
