Zimbabwe have been suspended from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and their funding from the sport’s governing body frozen.
Zimbabwe cricketers say they are willing to play for free in an effort to keep the sport alive in the country.
The International Cricket Council has suspended the nation’s cricket board because of government interference, denying it much-needed funding. The ICC was concerned funding may have been diverted to the Zimbabwe government, rather than developing the game.
The ICC has urged “that the elected Zimbabwe Cricket Board be reinstated to office within three months”, with the matter to be reconsidered at a board meeting in October.
The current suspension is the latest setback for the men’s and women’s game.
