{"id":9602,"date":"2019-09-21T13:19:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-21T08:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=9602"},"modified":"2019-09-21T13:20:25","modified_gmt":"2019-09-21T08:20:25","slug":"india-ex-minister-arrested-in-sexual-abuse-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/9602","title":{"rendered":"India Ex-Minister Arrested in Sexual Abuse Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A former Indian federal minister from the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Swami Chinmayanand, 73, has been charged with &#8220;misusing authority&#8221; for sex &#8211; a lesser offence than rape &#8211; as well as stalking, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>He denies all of the charges.<\/p>\n<p>The woman, who was a student at one of several colleges run by him, alleges that the abuse lasted for months.<\/p>\n<p>The woman said she first met Mr Chinmayanand in June last year when she enrolled at a law college run by him. She alleged that he showed her a video of her bathing and blackmailed her to have sex with him.<\/p>\n<p>She posted a video on Facebook on 24 August detailing the alleged abuse.\u00a0 \u00a0Than,\u00a0 she filed a case in early September and authorities had faced criticism over the pace of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>If found guilty, Mr Chinmayanand, a former lawmaker from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, faces up to 10 years in jail.<\/p>\n<p>He had served as a minister in the BJP government under former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Indian federal minister from the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual abuse.
