{"id":9435,"date":"2019-09-17T11:56:17","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T06:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=9435"},"modified":"2019-09-17T11:56:17","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T06:56:17","slug":"israel-election-voters-head-to-the-polls-for-second-time-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/9435","title":{"rendered":"Israel Election: Voters Head to the Polls for Second Time This Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Israelis are voting in their country&#8217;s second general election in five months, \u00a0following a campaign dominated by Benjamin Netanyahu \u00a0and his vows to implement a far-right, ultranationalist agenda in exchange for a record fifth term as leader.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli Prime Minister\u00a0 Netanyahu has made a series of ambitious pledges in a bid to whip up support, including a promise to annex the Jordan Valley, an area even moderate Israelis view as strategic but which the Palestinians consider the breadbasket of any future state.<\/p>\n<p>To protest that announcement, the Palestinian Authority held a Cabinet meeting in the Jordan Valley village of Fasayil on Monday, a day after Israel\u2019s Cabinet met elsewhere in the valley.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the snap election after failing to form a governing coalition with a viable majority after April&#8217;s vote.<\/p>\n<p>Locked in a razor tight race and with legal woes hanging over him, Netanyahu is fighting for his political survival.<\/p>\n<p>The final opinion polls put his right-wing Likud party neck and neck with its main challenger, the centrist Blue and White party led by former military chief Benny Gantz.<\/p>\n<p>Negotiations on the formation of a new coalition are expected to start as soon as voting ends at 22:00 (19:00 GMT) and exit polls are published.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Israelis are voting in their country&#8217;s second general election in five months, \u00a0following a campaign dominated by Benjamin Netanyahu \u00a0and his vows to implement a far-right, ultranationalist agenda in exchange for a record fifth term as leader.
