{"id":9419,"date":"2019-09-17T10:06:27","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T05:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=9419"},"modified":"2019-09-17T10:06:27","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T05:06:27","slug":"india-arrests-kashmir-leader-abdullah-under-controversial-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/9419","title":{"rendered":"India Arrests Kashmir Leader Abdullah under Controversial Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A senior pro- India \u00a0Kashmiri politician was arrested under a controversial law that allows authorities to imprison someone for up to two years without charge or trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Farooq Abdullah, 82, a former chief minister of Indian-administered part of the disputed region who ruled\u00a0 Jammi and Kashmir for three terms and was a minister in different federal governments, was on Monday arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Srinagar, the capital of the disputed Himalayan region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Abdullah has been under house arrest since August 5 when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi&#8217;s Hindu nationalist government stripped \u00a0Kashmir of its special status and imposed a security lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have arrested him, and a committee will decide how long the arrest will be,&#8221; said Muneer Khan, a top police official in Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p>Rights activists say more than 20,000 Kashmiris have been arrested\u00a0under the PSA\u00a0since it came into effect in 1978.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A senior pro- India \u00a0Kashmiri politician was arrested under a controversial law that allows authorities to imprison someone for up to two years without charge or trial.
