Motor racing prospect Anthoine Hubert died on Saturday following a crash during the Formula Two race held before this weekend’s F1 Belgian Grand Prix, the FIA announced.<\/p>\n

The Frenchman, who was 22, suffered a huge impact from the car of American Juan Manuel Correa at about 170mph at the Raidillon swerves.<\/p>\n

An FIA statement said that Hubert was taken to the medical centre after the incident, and died at 18:35 local time.<\/p>\n

The race was stopped after the crash and cancelled within a few minutes when the potential seriousness of the accident became clear.<\/p>\n

Formula 2 have announced that Sunday’s sprint race at Spa has been cancelled “out of respect”, while the Formula 3 race will go ahead.<\/p>\n

Anthoine Hubert<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Hubert was a Renault F1 junior and the reigning GP3 series champion, and his strong performance in junior categories had earned him full backing Renault, who were preparing him for a big future.<\/p>\n
