{"id":8521,"date":"2019-08-25T13:59:14","date_gmt":"2019-08-25T08:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=8521"},"modified":"2019-08-25T13:59:14","modified_gmt":"2019-08-25T08:59:14","slug":"200000-rohingya-rally-to-mark-genocide-day-in-bangladesh-camps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/8521","title":{"rendered":"200,000 Rohingya Rally to mark &#8216;Genocide Day&#8217; in Bangladesh Camps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some 200,000 Rohingya rallied in a Bangladesh refugee camp to mark two years since they fled a violent crackdown by Myanmar forces.<\/p>\n<p>Around 740,000 Rohingya from Myanmar&#8217;s Rakhine state escaped in August 2017 during the brutal offensive, joining another 200,000 who fled earlier persecution.<\/p>\n<p>The nearly one million refugees now live in three dozen squalid camps in Bangladesh&#8217;s southeastern border district of Cox&#8217;s Bazar.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, under the scorching sun, thousands joined in a popular song with the lyrics &#8220;the world does not listen to the woes of Rohingya&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Children, hijab-wearing women, and men in long-skirt lungis shouted &#8220;God is Great, Long Live Rohingya&#8221; as they marched at the heart of the world&#8217;s largest refugee camp, to commemorate what they described as &#8220;Genocide Day&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Myanmar had said they were conducting counter-insurgency operations against Rohingya extremists after they attacked police posts, but the United Nations last year called for Myanmar&#8217;s top generals to be prosecuted for genocide over the crisis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some 200,000 Rohingya rallied in a Bangladesh refugee camp to mark two years since they fled a violent crackdown by Myanmar forces.
