India has swiftly rejected an offer by Donald Trump to help resolve its long-running conflict over Kashmir with Pakistan, denying that its prime minister had asked the US president to help.<\/p>\n
Mr Trump’s claim he had been asked came as he hosted Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan at the White House. The president said that during a meeting two weeks ago Modi had asked, ‘Would you like to be a mediator, or arbitrator on Kashmir?”<\/p>\n
The Indian foreign ministry said “no such request” was made, adding that all issues with Pakistan were “discussed only bilaterally”.<\/p>\n
Both India and Pakistan claim all of Kashmir, but control only parts of it.<\/p>\n
The neighbours have fought two wars over the Muslim-majority territory, and tensions flared again in February leading to cross-border air strikes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
