{"id":6782,"date":"2019-07-18T10:21:54","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T05:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=6782"},"modified":"2019-07-18T10:21:54","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T05:21:54","slug":"googles-project-dragonfly-terminated-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/6782","title":{"rendered":"Google&#8217;s Project Dragonfly &#8216;terminated&#8217; in China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google revealed this week that it has ceased all work on Project Dragonfly, its search engine tailor-made for China.<\/p>\n<p>Google&#8217;s controversial plan to launch a censored search engine in China has been &#8220;terminated&#8221;, according to a company executive.<\/p>\n<p>The project was reported to have ceased late last year but rumours that it remained active persisted.<\/p>\n<p>The tailored search engine for the Chinese market was one of several efforts by Google parent company Alphabet that has effectively caused a civil war within\u00a0 the company.<\/p>\n<p>Google&#8217;s prototype Chinese search engine had previously been labelled\u00a0 as &#8220;disturbing&#8221; by one of the former employee.<\/p>\n<p>Dragonfly had attracted criticism as a potential means through which Chinese authorities could censor web content and monitor citizens&#8217; behaviour online.<\/p>\n<p>The investigative documents suggested that Google engineers were at one point working on ways to filter out websites &#8211; including the BBC and Wikipedia &#8211; from search results, based on web censorship in China.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google revealed this week that it has ceased all work on Project Dragonfly, its search engine tailor-made for China.
