NEWYORK: The Pakistani American Skilled Women Organization (PASWO) organized an awareness seminar in New York that focused on the prevention and protection against domestic violence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participants were urged not to remain silent in the face of domestic violence, but rather to seek legal recourse.<\/p>\n

The ‘Purple Day’ and awareness seminar on domestic violence, hosted by the Pakistani American Skilled Women Organization at their office on Ditmas Avenue, began with a recitation from the Holy Quran.<\/p>\n

A large number of women from the Pakistani-American community attended the event.<\/p>\n

Both the organizers and the participants wore purple, the color symbolizing awareness, protection, and the prevention of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

Addressing the participants, PASWO founder Atiya Shahnaz provided a briefing on incidents of domestic violence and the legal rights available to victims for protection and prevention.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the participants, Atiya Shahnaz noted that domestic violence is a serious issue within the South Asian community.<\/p>\n

She emphasized that such incidents must not be ignored; remaining silent is not a solution but rather contributes to the escalation of such violence.<\/p>\n

Participants were offered opportunities to engage in activities such as painting, sewing, and yoga in addition to receive legal guidance.<\/p>\n

During the event, American officials presented a session based on real-life cases, and speakers reassured women affected by domestic violence that they are not alone.<\/p>\n

A question-and-answer session was also held during the seminar.<\/p>\n

President of PASWO Shaheen Khokhar also shared her views. She said that to prevent the disintegration of the family unit, it is essential to ensure the prevention of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

She urged affected women and individuals to exercise their constitutional and legal rights.<\/p>\n

Participants were informed that domestic violence is not limited to physical abuse; it also encompasses mental and economic torment, as well as the inhumane treatment of children.<\/p>\n
