NEWYORK: Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani today filled the City\u2019s 100,000th pothole on Olympia Boulevard on Staten Island, marking the highest number of potholes filled in the first 100 days of a year in more than a decade.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The milestone reflects New York City Department of Transportation\u2019s (NYC DOT) aggressive repair efforts following a historic winter that battered city streets and triggered a surge of potholes this spring \u2014 and underscores the administration\u2019s commitment to tackling the everyday quality-of-life issues New Yorkers face.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor weeks, DOT crews have been out before sunrise, filling potholes and making our streets safer and more accessible,\u201d said\u00a0Mayor Mamdani.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the often-invisible work that keeps our city moving, and it\u2019s exactly what New Yorkers deserve: a government that not only hears their concerns, but delivers solutions big and small.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs warm weather arrived and our streets began to thaw, our City was ready to address the wear-and-tear of a brutal winter,\u201d said\u00a0Deputy Mayor for Operations Julia Kerson.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am incredibly grateful to the workers of DOT who have worked efficiently and effectively to conduct blitz after blitz to repair our streets.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis winter hit our streets hard \u2014 but NYC DOT hit back, filling more than 100,000 potholes across the five boroughs,\u201d said\u00a0NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, we\u2019re shifting into full-scale resurfacing to deliver the safe, smooth streets New Yorkers deserve. That\u2019s what excellence in government looks like \u2014 responding fast and delivering results.\u201d<\/p>\n

Three intensive Saturday pothole blitzes accelerated repairs. During each blitz, 80 NYC DOT crews were deployed at 6 a.m. to fill a week\u2019s worth of potholes in a single day.\u00a0 According to NYC, on March 14, 7,200 potholes filled, on March 21, 8,000 potholes filled and on March 28, 7,600 potholes filled<\/p>\n

As the city moves into spring, NYC DOT has begun its seasonal repaving program. Full-scale resurfacing remains the most effective way to maintain safe, smooth streets.<\/p>\n

This year, the agency plans to repave 1,150 lane miles \u2014 enough to stretch from New York City to Miami. As in previous years, crews that have focused on pothole repairs will transition to repaving work through the spring, summer and fall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
