NEWYORK: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said\u00a0that his administration is proud that NYC is an immigrant city urging citizen to apply for the city\u2019s free child care program.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Addressing a roundtable about the city\u2019s child care programs before the applicant window for free pre-K and 3-K closes, Mayor said that he want to be\u00a0very clear\u00a0that we are proud to be an immigrant city.<\/p>\n

Mayor Mamdani said that we are encouraging everyone to apply to, to see themselves as a part of and to know that we are going to use every single law that we have here to protect the health and safety of everyone who signs up.<\/p>\n

Mamdani’s comments come following Donald Trump\u2019s administration\u00a0carries out a series of immigration enforcement operations in major cities.<\/p>\n

To a question about immigrant issue as well as recent Ramos incident in which federal agents took a five years old boy, Mamdani said that we have rights in this city, especially as it pertains to our sanctuary city policies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are rights that I will take\u00a0every\u00a0opportunity to share with New Yorkers, because\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0just like, if you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know about universal child care, if you\u00a0don’t\u00a0know about your rights, then\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0never use them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll tell you that the impact in our education system of this fear that has taken hold over the last few years, it can literally look like a decline in attendance rates at schools. What it can also look like is a permanent state of anxiety for New Yorkers, many of whom have shared this with me, especially undocumented New Yorkers, of whenever they leave their home,”Mamdani said at roundtable conference.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Mamdani and Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that they would partner to deliver free\u00a0child care\u00a0for 2-year-olds in New York City, in addition to strengthening the existing 3-K program\u00a0with the goal of\u00a0achieving\u00a0universal care.<\/p>\n

New York City families with kids turning 3 or 4 years old this year can apply for free child care at myschools.nyc.<\/p>\n
