{"id":39417,"date":"2026-01-24T16:03:18","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T16:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/?p=39417"},"modified":"2026-01-24T16:03:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T16:03:18","slug":"mayor-zohran-mamdani-and-speaker-julie-menin-announce-formation-of-quadrennial-commission-on-public-servant-compensation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/39417","title":{"rendered":"Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Speaker Julie Menin announce formation of Quadrennial commission on public servant compensation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW YORK \u2014 Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Speaker Julie Menin announced the convening of a Quadrennial Advisory Commission to review compensation levels for certain public servants, in accordance with the New York City Charter, and as an alternative to proposed legislation that would have automatically provided compensation increases.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Commission will conduct an independent, comprehensive review of compensation for elected officials and issue recommendations for consideration by the Mayor and Speaker.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission will review compensation for Council Members, citywide elected officials, and District Attorneys. The City Council must approve any changes to compensation following the Commission\u2019s recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Yorkers deserve transparency and accountability in how their government operates \u2014 including how elected officials are paid.<\/p>\n<p>An independent commission helps ensure any changes are lawful, justified, and rooted in the public interest,\u201d said Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConvening this body is a necessary step toward compliance, and I look forward to carefully reviewing its recommendations in the months ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City Charter calls for an independent review process, and it\u2019s important that we follow it,\u201d said Speaker Julie Menin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConvening the Quadrennial Commission is a responsible step to restore compliance and ensure transparency and accountability in how compensation is reviewed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the City Charter, an independent Quadrennial Commission is required to be convened every four years, during the third year of every mayoral administration, to review public servant compensation. Because no such commission has been convened since 2015, this action addresses that lapse and reestablishes the independent review process set forth by the Charter.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission will be composed of independent members with relevant expertise and will hold public meetings as required by law.
