{"id":39060,"date":"2025-12-15T19:10:50","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T19:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/?p=39060"},"modified":"2025-12-15T19:10:50","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T19:10:50","slug":"pakistans-pm-directs-for-fast-tracking-of-power-sector-privatization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/39060","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan\u2019s PM directs for fast-tracking of power sector privatization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISLAMABAD: Pakistan\u2019s prime minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to accelerate the privatization process of electricity distribution and generation companies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chairing a review meeting on power sector reforms in Islamabad, he emphasized that establishing a competitive electricity market through privatization is the only sustainable solution to the country&#8217;s energy challenges.<\/p>\n<p>PM instructed that development projects aimed at improving the electricity transmission system be completed on a priority basis.<\/p>\n<p>He further directed that work on the Battery Energy Storage System be initiated through public-private partnerships, with active participation from the private sector, to align the power system with modern-day requirements.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on progress in electricity generation, transmission, privatization of DISCOs and GENCOs, and other reforms in the power sector.<\/p>\n<p>It was told that steps are underway for the privatization of three distribution companies, including IESCO, FESCO and GEPCO, with Expressions of Interest to be published soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Pakistan\u2019s prime minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to accelerate the privatization process of electricity distribution and generation companies.
