{"id":34510,"date":"2024-09-25T15:37:12","date_gmt":"2024-09-25T15:37:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/?p=34510"},"modified":"2024-09-25T15:37:12","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T15:37:12","slug":"president-unga-urges-g20-to-take-decisive-steps-in-reforming-international-financial-structure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/34510","title":{"rendered":"President UNGA urges G20 to take decisive steps in reforming international financial structure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEWYORK: President of General Assembly Philemon Yang said that the G20 remains a critical platform for addressing global economic challenges, fostering international cooperation, and driving sustainable development.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Addressing G20 foreign minister\u2019s meeting, Philemon Yang said that under Brazil\u2019s presidency, we have seen a renewed focus on inclusive growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability\u2014priorities that resonate with both emerging and developed economies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrazil\u2019s leadership has provided stability and vision at this critical time, guiding meaningful dialogue and collective action on the global stage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>President Yang said that we convene at a critical moment when the world is uniting around the urgent need to revitalize our multilateral architecture, ensuring it is fit for addressing today\u2019s challenging problems.<\/p>\n<p>He said that during the recently concluded summit of the future, we adopted the pact for the future, which outlined a comprehensive path forward for collective action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI call on the G20 to take decisive steps in advancing the outcomes of that summit, particularly in reforming the international financial architecture to make it more equitable and effective for all nations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cG20 countries, representing approximately 60% of the global population and contributing around 85% of the world\u2019s GDP, bear the responsibility of leading the charge in realizing the ambitious goals set out in the Pact,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate Brazil\u2019s initiative to convene this G20 meeting, open to all UN Member States. It reflects Brazil\u2019s commitment to reinvigorating international cooperation and reforming global governance institutions.<\/p>\n<p>I also wish to recognize the leadership of previous G20 presidencies from the Global South\u2014Saudia Arabia, Indonesia and India\u2014in representing and advancing the interests of developing nations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>President said that this is a testament to the rising influence of the global South in shaping global priorities and their efforts have laid the groundwork for continued progress on global equity and inclusivity.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed his optimism for South Africa\u2019s upcoming G20 presidency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith South Africa, and the African continent as a whole, taking the lead, we have a vital opportunity to continue this momentum and ensure the voices of the Global South are central to global decision-making,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>President further stated that as a son of Africa, he is eager to see South Africa\u2019s leadership in 2025 advance the interests of the Global South, particularly in sustainable development, debt relief, climate action, and concessional financing, among other pressing areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to supporting the outcomes of your discussions today and wish you all a very successful meeting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEWYORK: President of General Assembly Philemon Yang said that the G20 remains a critical platform for addressing global economic challenges, fostering international cooperation, and driving sustainable development.
