{"id":21164,"date":"2021-07-16T18:15:37","date_gmt":"2021-07-16T13:15:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=21164"},"modified":"2021-07-16T18:15:37","modified_gmt":"2021-07-16T13:15:37","slug":"journalist-killed-while-covering-clash-between-afghan-forces-and-taliban-reuters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/21164","title":{"rendered":"Journalist killed while covering clash between Afghan forces and Taliban, Reuters."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spin Boldak, Afghanistan,<\/p>\n<p>Journalist Danish Siddiqui was killed on Friday while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters near a border crossing with Pakistan, an Afghan commander said, Reuter\u2019s reported.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-1\">According to Reuter\u2019s, Afghan Special Forces\u00a0had been fighting to retake the main market area of Spin Boldak when Siddiqui and a senior Afghan officer were killed in what they described as Taliban crossfire, the official told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-2\">Siddiqui had been embedded as a journalist since earlier this week with Afghan Special Forces based in the southern province of Kandahar and had been\u00a0reporting on fighting\u00a0between Afghan commandos and Taliban fighters.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-3\">&#8220;We are urgently seeking more information, working with authorities in the region,&#8221; Reuters President Michael Friedenberg and Editor-in-Chief Alessandra Galloni said in a statement published on Reuters web site.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Danish was an\u00a0outstanding journalist, a devoted husband and father, and a much-loved colleague. Our thoughts are with his family at this terrible time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/reuterspictures\/status\/1416001705431404544<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-5\">Siddiqui told Reuters he had been wounded in the arm by shrapnel earlier on Friday while reporting on the clash. He was treated and had been recovering when Taliban fighters retreated from the fighting in Spin Boldak.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-6\">Siddiqui had been talking to shopkeepers when the Taliban attacked again, the Afghan commander said.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-7\">Reuters was unable to independently verify the details of the renewed fighting described by the Afghan military official, who asked not to be identified before Afghanistan\u2019s Defence Ministry made a statement.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-8\">Siddiqui was part of the Reuters photography team to win the\u00a02018 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography\u00a0for documenting the Rohingya refugee crisis.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-9\">Since 2010, Siddiqui\u2019s works was covering the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Rohingya refugee\u2019s crisis, the Hong Kong protests and Nepal earthquakes.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-10\">Taliban fighters had captured\u00a0the border area on Wednesday, the second-largest crossing on the border with Pakistan and one of the most important objectives they have achieved during a rapid advance across the country as U.S. forces pull out Reuters publicized on its Web Site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spin Boldak, Afghanistan, Journalist Danish Siddiqui was killed on Friday while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters near a border crossing with Pakistan, an Afghan commander said, Reuter\u2019s reported.
