Indian\u00a0Army Chief\u00a0General Manoj Mukund Naravane has said that the restoration of\u00a0ceasefire\u00a0in February between Indian and Pakistani militaries along the Line of Control (LoC) is holding and contributed to the overall sense of\u00a0peace and well-being in border areas, reported News TV channel.<\/p>\n
According to Hindustan Times on Sunday, Indian\u00a0Army Chief Naravane said: \u201cThis is the first step on the long road to normalization of ties between the two countries. We would like the\u00a0ceasefire\u00a0to continue. It has definitely led to an improvement in the security situation and benefited civilians living in the forward areas.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a surprise development, Indian and Pakistani militaries announced on February 25 that they had begun observing a\u00a0ceasefire\u00a0along the\u00a0LoC\u00a0from midnight of February 24.\u00a0India\u00a0and Pakistan had agreed to a\u00a0ceasefire\u00a0on the\u00a0LoC\u00a0in November 2003, but it was frequently violated.<\/p>\n
However, the Indian\u00a0army chief\u00a0also vowed that \u201cCounterterrorism operations will continue.\u2019<\/p>\n
Peace\u00a0along the\u00a0LoC\u00a0is mutually beneficial, Naravane said. \u201cThe population living on either side suffers due to violence along the\u00a0LoC. I am sure the Pakistan army is also concerned about the population and hopefully the\u00a0ceasefire\u00a0will hold,\u201d the Indian\u00a0army chief\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
