Democrat Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump in the state of Georgia, while Trump won North Carolina, Edison Research projected on Friday as it called the final two states in the US presidential race.<\/p>\n

According to Edison Research\u00a0 Biden won 306 Electoral College votes to Trump\u2019s 232. Biden had surpassed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to capture the presidency.<\/p>\n

In Michigan, where Biden won by 2.6 percentage points or more than 148,000 votes, two Republican state senators have asked the state\u2019s top election officials to audit the results before certifying them.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump claimed without evidence that he was cheated by widespread election fraud and has refused to concede. State election officials report no serious irregularities, and several of his legal challenges have failed in court.<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s legal advisers have dismissed the Trump lawsuits as political theater.<\/p>\n

Earlier, \u00a0President Donald Trump\u00a0 said he was a \u201crealist\u201d who would follow the US Constitution after all legitimate votes were counted, but was waiting to see how US states proceeded in certifying their final election results, a top confidant said.<\/p>\n

Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera, in a post on Twitter and in an interview with the network, said Trump had called him earlier on Friday. The president was anxious about efforts in various states regarding vote counts after the election was called for his Democratic rival Joe Biden over the weekend.<\/p>\n
