Seventh death anniversary of renowned singer Zubaida Khanum was observed on Monday.<\/p>\n
Zubaida Khanum was born in\u00a0 Amritsar, British\u00a0 India, in 1935, in a\u00a0 Muslim\u00a0 family\u00a0 which migrated to Lahore \u00a0after\u00a0 independence\u00a0in 1947.<\/p>\n
Zubaida did not belong to any traditional\u00a0 family \u00a0of classical\u00a0 music \u00a0and never received any formal\u00a0 music\u00a0 lessons.<\/p>\n
She was given a head-start as a child when she was given an opportunity to\u00a0 sing at the\u00a0 \u00a0Lahore \u00a0station of Radio\u00a0 Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Zubaida Khanum started her singing career\u00a0 from \u00a01951 through Billo, but she came to public limelight\u00a0 from \u00a0film\u00a0 Shahri Babu in 1953.<\/p>\n
She earned a name for herself as the most melodious\u00a0 film \u00a0playback singer of Punjabi and\u00a0 Urdu\u00a0 films \u00a0in the 1950s.<\/p>\n
She recorded over 250 songs, predominantly solo but also in duets with other playback singers especially her pair with Ahmed Rushdi attracted huge public admiration as they sang numerous hit duets.<\/p>\n
Zubaida Khanum’s famous songs included ‘Aaye Mausam Rangeelay Suhanay’, Ghunghat Utha loon kay ghunghat nikaaloon, Mera Nishana Dekhay Zamana and Ae Chand Un Se ja kar mera salam kehna. Zubaida Khanum sung in several Punjabi\u00a0 films.<\/p>\n
Zubaida Khanum also performed as second heroin with Zarif in\u00a0 film \u00a0Patay Khan and performed the role of\u00a0 Sabiha Khanum’s friend in the\u00a0 film \u00a0Dilla Bhatti.<\/p>\n
Zubaida Khanum\u00a0 married\u00a0 film\u00a0 producer and director Riaz Bukhari and said goodbye to\u00a0 film\u00a0 industry.<\/p>\n
