{"id":16869,"date":"2020-09-28T11:21:42","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T06:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=16869"},"modified":"2020-09-28T11:21:42","modified_gmt":"2020-09-28T06:21:42","slug":"us-mideast-asia-alarmed-over-armenia-azerbaijan-conflict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/16869","title":{"rendered":"US, Mideast, Asia alarmed over Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TEHRAN, IRAN\/NUR-SULTAN, KAZAKHSTAN, <\/strong><strong>NEW YORK\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Middle East and Asian countries expressed concern Sunday over escalating hostilities after Armenian forces shelled Azerbaijani military and civilian positions in the occupied Upper Karabakh, or Nagorno-Karabakh region.<\/p>\n<p>Iran called on Azerbaijan and Armenia to end the conflict and start talks.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran is keeping a close watch on the conflict with concern, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh.<\/p>\n<p>Iran is ready to use all its capacities to establish a cease-fire and start talks between the two sides, Khatibzadeh noted.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan threw its weight behind Azerbaijan following Armenia\u2019s border violations and attacks in Upper Karabakh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pakistan stands with the brotherly nation of Azerbaijan and supports its right of self-defense,&#8221; the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We support Azerbaijan\u2019s position on Nagorno-Karabakh, which is in line with several unanimously adopted UN Security Council resolutions,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan called on Yerevan and Baku to end the conflict, the country\u2019s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Expressing its deep concern, the ministry said Nur-Sultan urges the two countries to take all measures to stabilize the situation and start a dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan&#8217;s international organizations are also ready to help in seeking peaceful ways to end the conflict, the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump said Sunday that the US is looking into what can be done to stop the violence between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region.<\/p>\n<p>Trump told reporters at a White House press conference that the US has \u201ca lot of good relationships in that area. We will see if we can stop it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Border clashes broke out early Sunday after Armenian forces targeted Azerbaijani civilian settlements and military positions in the region, which is also known as Upper Karabakh.<\/p>\n<p>Relations between the two former Soviet nations have been tense since 1991, when the Armenian military &#8216;occupied&#8217; Upper Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n<p>Four UN Security Council and two UN General Assembly resolutions as well as many international organizations demand the withdrawal of the occupying forces.<\/p>\n<p>The OSCE Minsk Group\u00a0 co-chaired by France, Russia and the US\u00a0 was formed in 1992 to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, but to no avail.
