{"id":16846,"date":"2020-09-27T11:19:50","date_gmt":"2020-09-27T06:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=16846"},"modified":"2020-09-27T11:19:50","modified_gmt":"2020-09-27T06:19:50","slug":"trump-names-judge-amy-coney-barrett-for-supreme-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/16846","title":{"rendered":"Trump names Judge Amy Coney Barrett for Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WASHINGTON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett on Saturday to fill the Supreme Court seat of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.<\/p>\n<p>Barrett is &#8220;one of our nation&#8217;s most brilliant and gifted legal minds,\u201d Trump said at the White House. &#8220;She is a woman of unparalleled achievement, towering intellect, sterling credentials and unyielding loyalty to the Constitution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This should be a straightforward and prompt confirmation. Should be very easy. Good luck. It&#8217;s going to be very quick. I&#8217;m sure it&#8217;ll be extremely non-controversial,&#8221; said Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Barrett also spoke at the Rose Garden ceremony and said she understands it is a momentous decision for the president.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the Senate does me the honor of confirming me, I pledge to discharge the responsibilities of this job to the very best of my ability,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell praised Trump for his decision and said Barrett is an &#8220;exceptionally impressive jurist and an exceedingly well-qualified nominee to the Supreme Court of the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Barrett, 48, serves on the 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals and is Trump&#8217;s third Supreme Court appointee, following Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.<\/p>\n<p>Ginsburg died last Friday of metastatic pancreatic cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats would need to have two more Republican senators announce opposition to the nomination if they are to successfully thwart a Trump candidate in the 100-seat Senate, which has a 53-47 Republican advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Barrett is expected Tuesday on Capitol Hill to begin courtesy calls and will meet McConnell, media outlets reported.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON US President Donald Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett on Saturday to fill the Supreme Court seat of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
