{"id":15838,"date":"2020-07-20T11:25:26","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T06:25:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=15838"},"modified":"2020-07-20T11:25:26","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T06:25:26","slug":"jerusalem-governor-arrested-in-israel-raid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/15838","title":{"rendered":"Jerusalem governor arrested in Israel raid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>JERUSALEM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Israeli police detained Jerusalem governor Adnan Ghaith on Sunday in a raid on his home, according to a local NGO.<\/p>\n<p>Police raided Ghaith\u2019s home in Silwan neighborhood in Jerusalem and took him into custody, the Wadi Hilweh Information Center said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It was not yet clear the reason for the arrest.<\/p>\n<p>This is the third time the Jerusalem governor has been detained by Israeli forces this year. Ghaith had been briefly arrested in April and May.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli forces have shut down several Palestinian institutions and arrested prominent figures in recent months as part of a campaign to crack down on Palestinian symbols in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>Jerusalem remains at the heart of the decades-long Mideast conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem\u00a0 occupied by Israel since 1967\u00a0 might one day serve as the capital of a Palestinian state.<\/p>\n<p>International law continues to view East Jerusalem, along with the entire West Bank, as &#8220;occupied territories&#8221; and considers all Jewish settlement construction there as illegal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JERUSALEM Israeli police detained Jerusalem governor Adnan Ghaith on Sunday in a raid on his home, according to a local NGO.
