{"id":15180,"date":"2020-06-16T13:22:16","date_gmt":"2020-06-16T08:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=15180"},"modified":"2020-06-16T13:22:16","modified_gmt":"2020-06-16T08:22:16","slug":"burundis-president-died-from-covid-19-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/15180","title":{"rendered":"Burundi&#8217;s president died from COVID-19: reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANKARA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Burundi&#8217;s President Pierre Nkurunziza died from the novel coronavirus, not a heart attack, some local news outlets reported Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s presidency announced on June 8 that Nkurunziza had died from a heart attack at a hospital in the city of Karusi in central Burundi.<\/p>\n<p>But some local media outlets claim the government hide the actual cause of death.<\/p>\n<p>Before his death, Nkurunziza said the pandemic is transmitted by air and God has \u201ccleared the coronavirus from Burundi\u2019s skies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On May 15, the government expelled representatives of the World Health Organization from the country, accusing them of manipulating the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Burundi has 85 confirmed cases and one death from the virus, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.<\/p>\n<p>The country has reported 45 recoveries.<\/p>\n<p>Since first appearing in Wuhan, China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions.<\/p>\n<p>The US, Brazil and Russia are currently the hardest-hit in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The pandemic has killed over 436,000 people worldwide, with more than 8 million confirmed cases and over 3.81 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ANKARA Burundi&#8217;s President Pierre Nkurunziza died from the novel coronavirus, not a heart attack, some local news outlets reported Monday.
