{"id":14784,"date":"2020-05-27T12:44:47","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T07:44:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=14784"},"modified":"2020-05-27T12:44:47","modified_gmt":"2020-05-27T07:44:47","slug":"us-accuses-russia-of-unsafe-mediterranean-intercept","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/14784","title":{"rendered":"US accuses Russia of &#8216;unsafe&#8217; Mediterranean intercept"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WASHINGTON\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The US accused Russia on Tuesday of carrying out an &#8220;unsafe and unprofessional&#8221; intercept of a Navy plane in the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n<p>The P-8A Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft was flying in the eastern Mediterranean above international waters when it was intercepted by two Russian Su-35 fighter jets for over an hour, the US Sixth Fleet said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The intercept was determined to be unsafe and unprofessional due to the Russian pilots taking close station on each wing of the P-8A simultaneously, restricting the P-8A\u2019s ability to safely maneuver,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>The Navy called the pilots&#8217; actions &#8220;unnecessary&#8221; and accused them of being &#8220;inconsistent with good air man-ship and international flight rules&#8221; and in so doing jeopardized their safety.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Actions\u200e like these increase the potential for midair collisions,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n<p>The incident on Tuesday marked the third such incident in the past two months, according to the Navy.
