{"id":14676,"date":"2020-05-23T03:29:56","date_gmt":"2020-05-22T22:29:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=14676"},"modified":"2020-05-23T03:29:56","modified_gmt":"2020-05-22T22:29:56","slug":"yemen-faces-deadlier-consequences-than-many-from-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/14676","title":{"rendered":"Yemen faces \u2018deadlier consequences\u2019 than many from COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>GENEVA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Epidemiologists estimate the novel coronavirus in Yemen could spread \u201cfaster, more widely and with deadlier consequences\u201d than in many other countries, a UN humanitarian official said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe COVID-19 pandemic is severely exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which was already the world\u2019s largest,\u201d Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a video news briefing, Laerke said that aid agencies are operating on the assumption that community transmission is taking place across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith only half of health facilities fully functioning, Yemen\u2019s health system needs significant assistance to counter the threat of COVID-19.
