We\u2019re deeply concerned about where we\u2019re going to be in a few weeks,\u201d the mayor said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #2a2a2a;\">Reporter asked de Blasio to clarify his answer: \u201cSo you talked to the hospitals in New York City, the health care system in New York City, they\u2019re going to run out in a matter of weeks you\u2019re saying?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #2a2a2a;\">De Blasio answered that, \u201cSome products I\u2019m worried about that it could be as soon as that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #2a2a2a;\">He added: \u201cYesterday we saw\u00a0a jump of 100 cases. Today we saw a jump of hundreds of cases, almost a doubling overnight over 1,800 now pushing 2,000 cases in just this city and at this rate it\u2019s just going to keep increasing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #2a2a2a;\">The mayor said he spoke with Dr. Mitchell Katz, head of the city\u2019s public hospitals, about the impending shortage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #2a2a2a;\">\u201cHe\u2019s got enough supplies for the immediate future, but you\u2019re talking about a massive surge in demand and we have been appealing constantly to the federal government to start a supply system that will actually help our hospitals survive an unprecedented surge in cases,\u201d de Blasio said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #2a2a2a;\">\u201cHospitals are going to have massive new demands and things like surgical masks you just burn through those in a normal day let alone in an emergency,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #2a2a2a;\">Wednesday morning\u00a0de Blasio called on\u00a0the US military to bring their medical capacity and logistical skill to the Big Apple.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #2a2a2a;\">\u201cThey\u2019re being sidelined right now by Donald Trump when he should be calling them to the front.
