{"id":13639,"date":"2020-03-18T12:42:56","date_gmt":"2020-03-18T07:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=13639"},"modified":"2020-03-18T12:43:36","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T07:43:36","slug":"5-nyc-medical-conference-attendees-reportedly-test-positive-for-novel-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/13639","title":{"rendered":"5 NYC medical conference attendees, Doctors, reportedly test positive for novel covid-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five doctors who attended a New York City medical conference last week have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The medical professionals were among roughly 1,300 physicians and educators who traveled from across the country and Canada for a Midtown assembly organized by the Council of Residency Directors (CORD) in Emergency Medicine, opening the possibility that hundreds of emergency room doctors have been exposed to the disease,\u00a0website reported Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have notified all of our attendees and the appropriate health authorities,\u201d DeAnna McNett, CORD\u2019s executive director, told the website. \u201cThe affected institutions are also aware and will be following their internal guidelines and protocols related to COVID-19 cases in their workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McNett said the organizers have also alerted the management team at the New York Hilton Midtown, which hosted the event from March 8-11.<\/p>\n<p>Website identified one of the doctors to test positive as Rosny Daniel, a physician from San Francisco who\u00a0penned a Medium post\u00a0on his diagnosis, in which he mentions he is \u201chorrified\u201d at the thought of exposing people while at \u201ca conference out of town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, I washed my hands like crazy. But, I didn\u2019t cover my cough, because I never had a cough,\u201d Daniel wrote. \u201cI avoided all handshakes and gave people the \u2018wakanda forever\u2019 salute instead. Yet I still worry that I either picked up the illness there or worse, exposed someone else.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the conference had been 2 days later,\u201d he went on, \u201cwhen we started to get more data about COVID-19 from Italy and more detail of the spread within the US, I wouldn\u2019t have gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McNett said the five doctors had been exposed to the virus at their respective places of work before attending the conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to note that none of the confirmed positive attendees were symptomatic during the dates of the conference,\u201d she said. \u201cAs the CDC notes in their advisory, this would be classified as a low-risk exposure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CORD acknowledged the potential risk of meeting during a rapidly growing outbreak\u00a0on its website\u00a0ahead of the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this time of public uncertainty and fear, it is especially important for emergency physicians to be seen as leaders and advocates for our patients,\u201d the group wrote, \u201cso CORD has no intention of canceling Academic Assembly at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five doctors who attended a New York City medical conference last week have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.
