{"id":13497,"date":"2020-03-10T14:53:10","date_gmt":"2020-03-10T09:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=13497"},"modified":"2020-03-10T14:53:10","modified_gmt":"2020-03-10T09:53:10","slug":"detainees-are-helping-to-combat-the-coronavirus-hand-sanitizer-made-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/13497","title":{"rendered":"Detainees are helping to combat the coronavirus, hand sanitizer made in prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled on Monday what he called the state\u2019s weapon against despicable price gougers taking advantage of coronavirus fears a new hand sanitizer produced by New York jail prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo said the \u201csuperior product\u201d is not only cheaper than brands made by greedy commercial businesses but will be readily available to New York governments, the MTA,\u00a0schools\u00a0and even the prisons where it\u2019s being made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s much cheaper for us to make it ourselves than to buy it on the open market,\u201d said Cuomo, adding that a gallon jug of the state-produced product costs $6 to make.<\/p>\n<p>It has a \u201cfloral bouquet,\u201d the governor added.<\/p>\n<p>Corcraft, the state Corrections Department\u2019s manufacturing service fueled by prisoner workers, manufacturing the sanitizer, Cuomo said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that while the CDC recommends products with 60 percent alcohol and private manufacturers such as Purell contain 70 percent, New York\u2019s version is 75 percent.<\/p>\n<p>He said the state will be blending out 100,000 gallons a week and will ramp up production as needed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled on Monday what he called the state\u2019s weapon against despicable price gougers taking advantage of coronavirus fears a new hand sanitizer produced by New York jail prisoners.
