A gunman is dead after\u00a0reportedly shooting 11\u00a0people and killing at least two at a\u00a0Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.<\/p>\n

The base is currently on lock down,\u00a0with the US Navy reporting that at least two victims have\u00a0been killed.\u00a0It is thought 11 people have been been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.<\/p>\n

“The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office can confirm there is no longer an active shooter on NAS Pensacola. The shooter is confirmed dead,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a post on Facebook.<\/p>\n

At least six injured people were expected at the trauma centre of the Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola, spokesman Mike Burke said.<\/p>\n

Seven people were being treated at Baptist Hospital, local media reported.<\/p>\n

The circumstances of the incident remained unclear.<\/p>\n

A statement released by NAS Pensacola said: “At approximately 0645 this morning, NAS Penascola Security was notified of an active shooter on base.\u00a0NAS Penascola Security and local law enforcement are currently on the scene and are investigating the incident.<\/p>\n

“Both gates on and off base are currently secured. More information will be provided as information comes in.”<\/p>\n

Local media said that the base hosts 16,000 military personnel and more than 7,000 civilians, and is home to a flight demonstration squadron.<\/p>\n

It is an early training center for naval pilots, and is known as the “cradle of Naval aviation.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
