Hundreds of young boys are being held in jails in northeast Syria, implying area under YPG\/PKK invasion, according to the UN Children\u2019s Fund.<\/p>\n
“At least 250 boys, some as young as 9, are held in detention, though the actual number may be much higher,” UNICEF spokeswoman Marixie Mercado told a news conference in Geneva to announce the latest report on the children’s situation in Syria.<\/p>\n
Mercado said nearly 28,000 children of “foreign fighters,” allegedly associated with armed groups, remain trapped in northeastern Syria, mostly in displacement camps, implying the area under invasion by YPG\/PKK terrorists.<\/p>\n
The PKK which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU, has been responsible for deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants in its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey. The<\/p>\n
UNICEF Representative in Syria Fran Equiza also said more than 5 million children, of which 2.6 million are internally displaced, in need of humanitarian aid in Syria.<\/p>\n
At least 1,106 children lost their lives in Syria, he said, which is the highest number since the start of the civil war in the country in 2011.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a \u00a0number of orphaned British children caught up in the war in Syria are to be brought home to the UK, the foreign secretary has said.<\/p>\n
They will be the first UK citizens to be repatriated from the area of north-eastern Syria formerly controlled by the Islamic State (IS) group.<\/p>\n
The group will be returned to the UK in the coming days. For security reasons, further details of their repatriation cannot be given.<\/p>\n
The United Nations has said countries should take responsibility for their own citizens unless they are to be prosecuted in Syria in accordance with international standards.<\/p>\n
Human Rights Watch says more than 1,200 foreign nationals have been repatriated from both Syria and Iraq to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia, Kosovo, and Turkey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
