Israeli authorities on Wednesday shut down Al-Rasasi Mosque in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n
The Muslim house of worship, located near Al-Aqsa Mosque (the third holiest site in Islam), was shut for six months on the grounds that parts of it were being used as an office by Jerusalem\u2019s Jordan-run Religious Endowments Authority.<\/p>\n
The offices of Palestinian state television and the Palestinian National Education Directorate in East Jerusalem were also shut for six months following a raid by Israeli police earlier in the day.<\/p>\n
Israel occupied East Jerusalem, in which Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Middle East War. It formally annexed the entire city in 1980, claiming it as its capital — a move never recognized by the international community.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile,\u00a0 Israel said its warplanes carried out a \u201cvery intense\u201d attack against Iranian forces and Syrian army targets in Syria on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
In a rare confirmation of their operations in Syria, the Israeli army said they had carried out dozens of strikes against the Iranian elite Quds Force and the Syrian military, in response to four rockets reportedly fired at Israel a day before.<\/p>\n
Britain-based monitoring group the Syrian Obser\u00advatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said 23 people were killed in the strikes \u2014 21 fighters and two civilians.<\/p>\n
