The Iranian army has shot down an unidentified foreign drone near the port of Bandar-e Mahshahr on the Gulf coast, according to reports from the country\u2019s news agencies.<\/p>\n
The aircraft was downed over Iranian territory with domestically manufactured Mersad surface-to-air missiles. Iranian news agencies said the drone was shot down in the country\u2019s airspace.<\/p>\n
Provincial governor Gholamreza Shariati said that the drone belonged to a foreign country and that parts of it had been recovered in a nearby lagoon.<\/p>\n
Shariati said \u201cThe UAVs are definitely a foreign \u2019country\u2019s and the results of the expert reviews will be made public after they are determined.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is clear that this drone has entered the Mahshahr area without coordination, so the city\u2019s defence has attempted to overthrow it\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The United States Central Command released a statement later on Friday saying that the downed drone was not one of theirs, and that all military drones were accounted for.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlleged reports of a US drone being shot down are incorrect. If a UAS had gone down in the CENTCOM AOR it was not a DoD asset,\u201d US Central Command said in a post on Twitter.<\/p>\n
