Turkey has captured a wife of former ISIS leader\u00a0 Aby Bakr-al-Bhagdadi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.<\/p>\n
Erdo\u011fan made the announcement during a speech in Ankara on Wednesday but did not provide any further details. \u201cThe United States said Baghdadi killed himself in a tunnel,\u201d Erdogan said, criticising the US for a \u201ccommunications campaign\u201d over the jihadist\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut, I am announcing it here for the first time: we captured his wife and didn\u2019t make a fuss like them. ” he added.<\/p>\n
Erdogan didn’t name the woman, and Baghdadi, who died during a US raid on his compound in northern Syria late last month, was believed to have had \u00a0four wives.<\/p>\n
Turkey has described the discovery of Baghdadi’s relatives as a boon for its intelligence about ISIS, saying that it will help the country better protect itself and Europe from terrorists.<\/p>\n
It is not clear when or how the unidentified woman was arrested by Turkish forces, but Ankara said earlier this week it had captured several of the jihadist\u2019s relatives, including his elder sister Rasmiya Awad,\u00a0 in the northern Syrian town of Azaz, in Aleppo province.<\/p>\n
The Isis leader blew himself and three children up in a tunnel\u00a0 after US special forces entered his heavily-fortified compound in Syria’s Idlib province\u00a0 during a raid on 26 October.<\/p>\n
