{"id":11164,"date":"2019-10-26T10:34:02","date_gmt":"2019-10-26T05:34:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=11164"},"modified":"2019-10-26T10:34:02","modified_gmt":"2019-10-26T05:34:02","slug":"million-faces-power-shut-down-in-california-wildfires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/11164","title":{"rendered":"Million Faces Power Shut Down in California Wildfires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A fast-spreading\u00a0<em>wildfire<\/em>, spurred by powerful winds, continued to rage in Northern\u00a0 California\u00a0<i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Millions of Californians face having their power cut as firefighters continue to battle a surge in wildfires in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Pacific Gas &amp; Electric (PG&amp;E) said it may have to turn off power in 36 counties amid forecasts of a &#8220;historic wind event&#8221;, which it said could damage facilities and cause new fires.<\/p>\n<p>The warning came as wildfires forced some 50,000 people from their homes.<\/p>\n<p>A state of emergency has been declared in Los Angeles and Sonoma counties.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s fire department says the state is experiencing &#8220;critical fire weather&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;PG&amp;E will need to turn off power for safety several hours before the potentially damaging winds arrive,&#8221; the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The company said high winds &#8220;pose a higher risk of damage and sparks on the electric system and rapid wildfire spread&#8221;, adding that vegetation was especially vulnerable to fire because it had been dried out by previous winds.<\/p>\n<p>The Kincade Fire, which started on Wednesday, has burned through 21,900 acres (8,800 hectares) of land in Sonoma County &#8211; one of California&#8217;s best-known wine regions.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1,300 firefighters are tackling the blaze, which remains uncontained.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A fast-spreading\u00a0wildfire, spurred by powerful winds, continued to rage in Northern\u00a0 California\u00a0\u00a0 Millions of Californians face having their power cut as firefighters continue to battle a surge in wildfires in the state.
