A Northern California sheriff’s deputy\u00a0 was killed \u00a0and a deputy from another county on a ride-along was injured after an “active shooter” incident in Northern California \u00a0early Wednesday, officials said.<\/p>\n
El Dorado County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Brian Ishmael was responding to a report of a theft from a\u00a0 marijuana \u00a0garden at a private home when he immediately came under fire, El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini said.<\/p>\n
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Brian Ishmael and said on\u00a0 Facebook \u00a0the incident occurred in the area of\u00a0 Ridge Road and Mount Aukum Road in the unincorporated community of Somerset, located about 60 miles east of Sacramento.<\/p>\n
In Ishmael’s patrol vehicle at the time was an off-duty San Joaquin County deputy who was there for a ride-along, the sheriff said. That deputy returned fired and “did his best to save Brian,” D’Agostini said.<\/p>\n
Two men were\u00a0in custody in connection with the incident, but the scene was\u00a0still “active” later Wednesday morning, with a helicopter and large contingent of law enforcement in the area, officials said.<\/p>\n
It is not clear if there are any outstanding suspects, the sheriff said.<\/p>\n
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we announce that we lost a deputy in the line of duty this morning,” the department said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
