{"id":10890,"date":"2019-10-17T10:18:25","date_gmt":"2019-10-17T05:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=10890"},"modified":"2019-10-17T10:51:38","modified_gmt":"2019-10-17T05:51:38","slug":"ny-based-apna-community-center-to-help-citizens-in-u-s-census-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/10890","title":{"rendered":"NY Based APNA Community Center to Help Citizens in U.S. Census 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>US based organization, APNA Community Center, is recognized by the South Asian Muslim community in Brooklyn, New York and is a centralized hub for the Muslim Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Since\u00a0 APNA community partnered with many elected officials and city agencies to organize different programs, workshops, events\u00a0 for community engagement, education, training and development,\u00a0 they are recognizing the importance of the Census,\u00a0 they offered the space to Census team in our job fair in May.<\/p>\n<p>Currently,\u00a0 the organization formed 2020 Census Complete Count Committee in partnership with\u00a0 Emgage, CAIR- NY, MCN, Yemeni American Merchant Association, Harlem Tidiania Islamic Cultural CenterAPPAC and APAG.<\/p>\n<p>They have scheduled 3 recruitment events for Census, The first will be held on October 22, 2019, 2nd will be on November 19, 2019 and 3rd will be on December 17, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>APNA is working actively for Census 2020 at many levels, many workshops, events and programs will be organized by APNA to increase the participation of Muslim Community in Census 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/73388482_1442494199254954_1165610912468434944_n-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10900\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/73388482_1442494199254954_1165610912468434944_n-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"744\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/73388482_1442494199254954_1165610912468434944_n-1.jpg 744w, https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/73388482_1442494199254954_1165610912468434944_n-1-233x300.jpg 233w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Brooklyn neighborhoods of Brighton Beach and Coney Island are home to diverse communities of recent immigrants hailing from countries including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and several Central American countries (hard to count communities).<\/p>\n<p>To make sure these communities get\u00a0 proper share of\u00a0 resources and representation,\u00a0 APNA has jumped into projects to meet the needs of local residents , especially those who are low-income, older, and\/or have limited English proficiency.<\/p>\n<p>It is spreading message that census are confidential and no personal information is shared. These information are only used in gathering statistics. Thus, when one is not counted in census no funding , political power which leads to unfair\u00a0 taxes and weak\u00a0 represenation.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2020, every household\u00a0 will receive\u00a0 mail from US census Bureau\u00a0 with instructions.\u00a0 And for the first time, people will able to complete\u00a0 census form online.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Constitution mandates that a census be taken every 10 years to count all people\u2014both citizens and noncitizens\u2014living in the United States.<a id=\"footref-2\" class=\"sup footnote--slide\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prb.org\/importance-of-us-census\/#footnote-2\"> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Responding to the census is mandatory because getting a complete and accurate count of the population is critically important.<\/p>\n<p>An accurate count of the population serves as the basis for fair political representation and plays a vital role in many areas of public life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US based organization, APNA Community Center, is recognized by the South Asian Muslim community in Brooklyn, New York and is a centralized hub for the Muslim Americans.
