{"id":10877,"date":"2019-10-16T11:58:02","date_gmt":"2019-10-16T06:58:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=10877"},"modified":"2019-10-16T11:58:02","modified_gmt":"2019-10-16T06:58:02","slug":"higher-temperatures-driving-alarming-levels-of-hunger-global-hunger-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/10877","title":{"rendered":"Higher Temperatures Driving &#8216;Alarming&#8217; Levels of Hunger \u2013 Global Hunger Index"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The climate crisis is driving alarming levels of hunger in the world, undermining food security in the world\u2019s most vulnerable regions, according to this year\u2019s global Hunger index.<\/p>\n<p>The annual report, a ranking<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>of 117 countries measuring hunger rates and trends, shows progress since 2000 but warns that the world still has a long way to go to reach the zero hunger target \u00a0agreed by world leaders by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>The findings show levels of hunger are \u201cserious\u201d or \u201calarming\u201d in 47 countries and \u201cextremely alarming\u201d in one: the Central African Republic.<\/p>\n<p>India has been classified as a country with \u2018serious\u2019 levels of hunger according to this year\u2019s Global Hunger Index (GHI), slipping from 95th rank in 2010 to 102nd in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Countries like Nepal (73rd), Sri Lanka (66th), Bangladesh (88th), Myanmar (69th) and Pakistan (94th), although all in the \u2018serious\u2019 hunger category are better at feeding its citizens than India, according to this index.<\/p>\n<p>China (25th) has moved to a \u2018low\u2019 severity category and Sri Lanka is in the \u2018moderate\u2019 severity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/GHI2016-Map.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10881\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/GHI2016-Map.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/GHI2016-Map.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/GHI2016-Map-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/GHI2016-Map-768x540.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Data is lacking for several countries \u2013 Burundi, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Libya, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, South Sudan and Syria.<\/p>\n<p>The authors acknowledge an overall global decline in poverty and increased funding for nutrition but argue that current action and spending will not meet the global\u00a0 sustainable development goals\u00a0 or World Health Assembly nutrition targets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The climate crisis is driving alarming levels of hunger in the world, undermining food security in the world\u2019s most vulnerable regions, according to this year\u2019s global Hunger index.
