Five people have been injured in a knife attack at the Arndale Centre in Manchester.<\/p>\n
The man in his 40s was \u201clunging and attacking people\u201d with a large knife in the Arndale shopping centre, Police Chief Russ Jackson said.<\/p>\n
Three people were stabbed and two others were hurt when a man with a large knife started “lunging and attacking people”, according to police.<\/p>\n
Two women \u2014 one of them aged 19 \u2014 were taken to hospital with stab wounds and were said to be in a stable condition following the attack, which happened shortly after 11am.<\/p>\n
A man in his 50s was also being treated while the fourth victim, a woman in her 40s, did not require treatment, police said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough the injuries are nasty, we are told that, thankfully, none are life-threatening.\u201d\u00a0 Jackson added.<\/p>\n
He chased two police community support officers (PCSOs) before being detained, the force said.<\/p>\n
One witness said they saw a man “running around with a knife lunging at multiple people”, while another described people “screaming and running”.<\/p>\n
The centre was put on lockdown as officers confronted the attacker, with some shoppers taking refuge in stores.<\/p>\n
Within five minutes suspect\u00a0 initially arrested on suspicion of terror offences, has been detained under the Mental Health Act.<\/p>\n
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) believe he was acting alone.<\/p>\n
