For Kashmiri people life under India\u2019s brutal occupation is to \u201clive in an armed cage in the silence of a graveyard,\u201d according to Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan\u2019s permanent representative to the United Nations.<\/p>\n
Speaking in the UN General Assembly\u2019s third committee on Tuesday, Ambassador Lodhi pointed out that since Aug 5, when India annexed occupied Jammu and Kashmir, \u201ca large number of children have been picked up in night-time raids. Harrowing stories abound of widespread torture and arbitrary arrests; of how thousands, including children have been taken away from their homes, without any trace.\u201d<\/p>\n
She focused on the \u201cgrim reality\u201d facing children in Indian occupied Kashmir, under a repressive lockdown for over two months now, and called on the world community and Unicef, the UN\u2019s children agency, to come to their aid.<\/p>\n
She also referred to a recent\u00a0 New York Times <\/em>\u00a0report \u2013 \u201cRacing against death with both hands tied\u201d \u2013 which showed how \u201cthe sick pay the price as India shuts down communication in Kashmir.\u201d<\/p>\n The Indian occupation forces, the Pakistani envoy said, had snatched children from their mothers in the dead and darkness of the night. \u201cThey are then held incommunicado, and some children never return,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n Ambassador Lodhi referred to a picture depicting the pain of a Kashmiri mother who could not save her son\u2019s life because of the tight restrictions imposed on the occupied territory.
