{"id":10505,"date":"2019-10-08T12:17:55","date_gmt":"2019-10-08T07:17:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/?p=10505"},"modified":"2019-10-08T12:17:55","modified_gmt":"2019-10-08T07:17:55","slug":"four-drowned-in-selfie-tragedy-at-indian-reservoir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vosa.tv\/eng\/archives\/10505","title":{"rendered":"Four Drowned in Selfie Tragedy at Indian Reservoir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A newly-married woman and three other family members were swept away and drowned while trying to take a selfie in a fast-flowing river in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n<p>The dead were among a group of six who held hands and stood in waist deep water near Pambar dam before one of them slipped, pulling the others.<\/p>\n<p>The woman&#8217;s husband was able to save his sister but the others, including his wife and a 14-year-old boy, drowned.<\/p>\n<p>India has the highest number of recorded selfie deaths in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Experts warn that youngsters obsessed with social media are going to extreme lengths to post selfies seen as daring and risky.<\/p>\n<p>A study last year by researchers from the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences said 259 people across the world had died while taking selfies between 2011 and 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The highest number of selfie deaths was reported in India followed by Russia, the United States and Pakistan, it said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A newly-married woman and three other family members were swept away and drowned while trying to take a selfie in a fast-flowing river in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
