US\u00a0 Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a rising star in the Democratic Party,\u00a0 has voiced solidarity with people of Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the ongoing \u201cblockade must end\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe stand for the basic human dignity of Kashmiris & support democracy, equality, and human rights for all\u00a0–\u00a0including the most vulnerable,\u201d she said in a Twitter post.<\/p>\n
Stressing that reports of violence and torture are \u201cextremely concerning,\u201d\u00a0Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said that the \u201cblockade from communication and life-saving medical care must end\u201d.<\/p>\n
She also shared a video posted by a user, in which she can be seen participating in a \u201csolidarity march\u201d on Kashmir and scribbling a message on a huge coloured chart board.<\/p>\n
“Our entire community’s prayers and support are with the families of Kashmir, as we work to establish peace and justice there and throughout the world,” the congresswoman wrote on the chart board.<\/p>\n
Ms Ocasio-Cortez stands out in American politics by her determination to avoid accepting lobbyist money for her campaigns.<\/p>\n
Earlier, fellow congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who is of Palestinian origin, called for the communications blockade and curfew restrictions in Occupied Kashmir to be lifted to \u201cshed light\u201d on what is happening in the disputed region.<\/p>\n
