QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri has stepped down following Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s advice.
Zehri arrived at Governor House Tuesday afternoon and tendered his resignation. Governor Balochistan Mehmood Khan Achakzai has accepted his resignation.
Earlier today, PM Abbasi had asked Zehri to leave the seat before the provincial assembly’s session today. A vote of no-confidence was to be scheduled in assembly’s 4 pm session today.
Sanaullah Zehri met with Mehmood Khan Achakzai after PM’s instructions. Media reports claim Achakzai endorsed PM Abbasi’s advice, which compelled him to step down. Achakzai’s Pakhtunkhwa Mili Awami Party (PkMAP) is PML-N’s ally in Balochistan.
A no-confidence motion was submitted against Zehri on January 2 by MPAs Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Syed Agha Raza and had the signatures of 14 lawmakers.
In order to retain his seat, CM Zehri required the support of 33 members from a house of 65.
