CAPE TOWN: Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar held his nerves to give India a 7-run win in the third T20 of the three-match series against South Africa at the Cape Town, South Africa on Saturday.
In response to India’s target of 173, South Africa fell 8 runs short to 165/6.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Rohit fell early, but the decision was welcomed by Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan (48) who along with one-down batsman Suresh Raina (43) laid down the base for a big total.
Dhoni (13) and Pandey (13) and Pandya (21) contributed taking the score 172/7 in 20 overs.
South Africa took a slow start, they were 25/1 after five overs and 52/2 after 10.
Duminy (55 off 41) and C Jonker (49 off 24) tried to undone what top-order had done, but it was too late.
S Africa needed 18 off the last over, managed on 10 and fell 7 runs short of the target.
India won the match, won the series 2-1 and lifted the trophy.
It was a successful tour for them overall, though lost the Test series 2-1 but won ODIs 5-1 and then T20s 2-1.
So, the equation is seven wins against four losses, not bad for a visiting Asian team on the South African soil.
