QUETTA: The Governor of Balochistan Mehmood Khan Achakzai has called an assembly session on Saturday, January 13 to elect new Chief Minister of the province.
The seat went vacant after ex-CM Sanaunnal Zehri stepped down Tuesday in a bid to avoid no-confidence motion.
Zehri, who was earlier reluctant, tendered his resignation to the governor after Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s intervention. The decision was forthwith accepted.
Balochistan’s opposition parties have announced they would welcome any candidate nominated by the PML-N-led government.
With the opposition out of the process, the disgruntled group within the PML-N is set to nominate a new leader of the house.
Former provincial home minister Sarfaraz Bugti and Muhammad Saleh Bhootani are leading runner for the post.
