Activists in India have launched a helpline centre for the victims of hate crimes and mob attacks. They aimed at documenting such cases and providing legal aid to victims.
The initiative started in 100 cities to provide help to the victims of hate crimes and mob attacks, majority of them are Muslims, who comprise 14 percent of India’s 1.3 billion population.
According to the panel, initiative was required as India’s federal and state governments failed in preventing such incidents.
Lawyers, social workers, professors, journalists and religious leaders said there is a “dire need” of such initiative.
