Indian CJ Misra Discusses Judicial Crisis with Dissented Judges

NEW DELHI: Indian Chief Justice Dipak Misra held a meeting with four of his rebel judges in a bid to resolve the crisis that has hit the judiciary.

The meeting took place on Tuesday morning between Justice Misra, Justices J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Kurien Joseph and Madan Lokur – and three other unnamed judges.

The issue gripped Indian media when the four justices conducted an unprecedented press conference last week and voiced their reservations.

The judges believe that the chief justice Misra had been assigning cases to only his favourites.

Scroll. In reported that the Tuesday’s meeting was brief and that they are expected to meet on Wednesday as well to continue the meetings.

Press Trust India (PTI) said Attorney General KK Venugopal, who had earlier claimed that the rift in the country’s largest court has been resolved, said on Tuesday that it has not yet been settled. However, he hoped “things will be fully settled within two-three days.”
