Politico-Military Approach Must for Kashmir Peace – Rawat

NEW  DELHI: Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat has stated that both military operation and a political solution are must for peace in Jammu & Kashmir.

Press Trust India (PTI) quoted Rawat as saying, “Political initiative must go hand-in-hand with military operations to bring peace to Jammu and Kashmir.”

While responding a question about ramping up pressure on Pakistan, he insisted on military offensives to built pressure on the neighbouring country to stop alleged “cross-border terrorism” in the disputed Kashmir territory.

“Yes, you cannot be status quoist. You have to continuously think and keep moving forward. You have to keep changing your doctrines and concept and the manner in which you operate in such areas.”

The news agency perceived Bipin Rawat’s statement as a ‘clear indication’ that the army would ‘continue its policy of hot pursuit in dealing with militancy.’

Pakistan’s Kashmir Affairs Minister Chaudhry Barjees Tahir has responded strongly to Rawat’s statement, blaming India for state-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir and patronising terrorism in Pakistan to foil China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
