
JAMMU: An Indian newspaper, Statetimes has reported on May 29, 2018 THAT While a section of the Kashmir society became pro-active in Kathua rape and murder case, “unfortunately the voice for justice remained silent for over 2,210 rape victims across the State, highest of these in the Valley.”
The Statetimes report said that as per official record, 2,210 rape cases lodged in different police stations across the State till April 2018 still remained unsolved and most of these are registered in the Kashmir Valley.
According to the report in Indian-held Kashmir Valley 1584 rape cases continue to remain in the process of investigations in police stations of 12 districts.
The report newspaper quoted sources as saying that “a strong voice was raised in the Valley for justice to Kathua victim but they unfortunately never stood for the hundreds of women including the girl child who faced the similar fate in Kashmir.” The sources further said that in Jammu less than half of the cases, as compared to the Kashmir, are pending in the Court of Law.
The report added that “in Kashmir division, 1,584 cases are pending for the past four months of the current year, which include 125 in Srinagar, 252 in Budgam, 70 in Pulwama, 58 in Shopian, 148 in Kulgam, 167 in Anantnag, 41 in Ganderbal, 85 in Bandipora, 306 in Baramulla and 332 in Kupwara. On the contrary, in Jammu 507 cases are still pending, which include 106 in Jammu, 77 in Udhampur, 49 in Reasi, 20 in Kishtwar, 69 in Bhadarwah, 61 in Ramban, 12 in Rajouri, 43 in Poonch, 30 in Samba and 40 in Kathua. However, the Leh region has fewer number of pending rape cases, which include three in Kargil and six in Leh.
