Balochistan Assembly Session on Jan 13 to Elect New CM

QUETTA: The Governor of Balochistan Mehmood Khan Achakzai has called an assembly session on Saturday, January 13 to elect new Chief Minister of the province.

The seat went vacant after ex-CM Sanaunnal Zehri stepped down Tuesday in a bid to avoid no-confidence motion.

Zehri, who was earlier reluctant, tendered his resignation to the governor after Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s intervention.¬† The decision was forthwith accepted.

Balochistan’s opposition¬†parties have announced they would welcome any candidate nominated by the PML-N-led government.

With the opposition out of the process, the disgruntled group within the PML-N is set to nominate a new leader of the house.

Former provincial home minister Sarfaraz Bugti and Muhammad Saleh Bhootani are leading runner for the post.
